I'm deleting this due to the possibility of bill S 978 being passed in Congress. Designed to limit copyright infringement, the broad wording may allow people who link to copyrighted material to be criminally prosecuted.

Go here to sign against it (if anyone's even left reading on this forum).

I've been thinking about this very thing as well. What zones or warcraft stories do some of my favorite songs fit well with? (btw, love the Decemberists)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrQRS40OKNE White Winter Hymnal by the Fleet Foxes. For any of the snowy zones, Dun Morogh, Winterspring, etc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5O52raYzXvk Your Protector by the Fleet Foxes. Any of the scourged zones, E & W Plaguelands or Tirisfal. I think it would be especially appropriate in an Acherus setting. A sort of mournful remembrance of departed family members.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUIqszKMzDk King Harvest (Has Surely Come) by The Band. Westfall, obviously, but could go along with any farmland. But i think the labor/union concerns in the song are especially appropriate in Westfall given Stormwind's political/economic troubles.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRfBqoGVFXc Tiger Mountain Peasant Song by the Fleet Foxes (got a lot of these guys, i know). Perhaps Eversong or the Ghostslands. Seems to go well with the blood elves because of the whole "I'm turning myself into a demon" part.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNcuXdRrwtQ Kids with Guns by the Gorillaz. Could be appropriate in any context where there are lots youngsters being groomed for Horde/Alliance war or any propagandizing in general. Or you could go with the lyrics of the chorus: "Turning us into monsters/ they're turning us into fire/ It's all desire/It's all desire" That could easily be applied to the fel orcs or again, Kael's blood elves.

Thanks for introducing me to Fleet Foxes, Saranus. I'd never heard of them until now, and I'll definitely check them out. I'll probably add the White Winter Hymn to the official list, though I haven't quite decided where.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ4jZeGUFzI While You Wait For the Others by Grizzly Bear. Could be used in any place where Destron is feeling the futility of his quest to gain knowledge or the tiresome warmongering going on everywhere. Of course, Grizzly Bear could always fit in the Grizzly Hills Smile

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsXQAsntwSc Tired of Being Alone by Al Green. Struck me as being fitting for Honor Hold or any of the AEF outposts in Outland. Pining for their homes in Lordaeron, Stormwind or Khaz (taking the place of the woman in the song) and their general exhaustion.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kwl08VdIeFs Scarlet Tide by Alison Krauss. The potential for this song is virtually endless in world as rife with violence and warfare as Azeroth. Plus Alison's voice and this song are so hauntingly beautiful. Perhaps it belongs in a haunted land?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vIGxW6M4Gs Four Seasons: Autumn by Vivaldi. Azshara. Not sure which movement this is (andante?), but I really like this rendition on classical guitar. Here's Autumn in its entirety with the more recognizable sections.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdov2UIjUpY Sloop John B by the Beach Boys. Lost Rigger Cove in Tanaris. Bit of a strech, but its nautical and tropical feeling. And the "I feel so broke up I wanna go home" lyrics seem appropriate.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmC4t2QDO2g The Tornado Lessons by Cloud Cult. I was thinking Netherstorm because of the stormy naming theme of the zone. The song is delightfully chaotic too. "light to the dark to the light to the dark" lyrics lend themselves to confusing juxtaposition of naaru architecture with sinister purpose.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFP5afPweVI Long as I Can See the Light by CCR. Any of the many times Destron waxes philosophical about the nature of the Light. "yes, i've got that old traveling bone" in the second verse has several layers of relevance for Destron.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85zp1zVVDAQ Voodoo Child (Slight Return) by Jimi Hendrix. I though this was perfect for the the new section when Destron was among the Drakkari on the upper tier.

This is fun Razz

Well, considering this is a creative section and it is about writing, I'm sure the Bird won't be fussy Smile.

I've got a lot of listening to do, it would seem... Many of those songs I've never heard of, but of the ones that I have:

That part of the "Quattro Stagioni" suite by Antonio Vivaldi is the first movement (Allegro) of L'autunno, and apart from being very appropriate as a mood-maker, Antonio Vivaldi wrote the Four Seasons to go along four sonnets, so it has a natural connection with text already Wink.

I'd add some songs myself, but I've yet even to find time to read the last instalments of the Travelogue! I think I should do that first Very Happy.

What is this bird of which you speak, Amaunator? I have seen no birds around here in seeming eons...

I love all of these. Great idea for a thread, and great songs.

I really loved getting to hear Wonderlust King by Gogol Bordello, since the lead singer of the group, Eugene Hutz, is the basis for one of the lead characters in a great movies, the delightfully twisted Wristcutters, which I highly recommend. Gogol Bordello also does most of the music for the film, which made me an instant fan of them (even though I had no idea who they were until today)

A few thoughts of my own, more of the ambient, mood-setting sort than the thematic similarities:

Blackrock Depths: The Stone Tower Temple, from the Zelda Reorchestrate version of the Majora's Mask Soundtrack
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4T-Ts73I9A

Azshara: The Great Bay Coast, also from Majora's Mask
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ikk3UaYuJQ

The Bone Wastes, Terrokar: Ikana Valley, another Majora's Mask
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rMt_orIwXY

Zul'drak, or Ulduar, or Stormwind Keep or any particularly grand, royal place: Pirate's Fortress, the last one (for today) from Majora's Mask
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3feGd4su0bQ

The Battle for Undercity, or AV, or Eye of the Storm, or any large battle: Prelude to War, by the indomitable Bear McCreary (A long but very exciting song)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlcUwUwjLrs#movie_player

Booty Bay, or Lost Rigger Cover or any piratical area: The Pirates of Dragon Roost Isle OC Remix, by the folks at OCRemix
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRyer6O1EjI

Netherstorm: All Along the Watchtower, another by Bear McCreary
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ka_sHy9cVH0

And just because I couldn't resist:
Zangarmarsh: White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane:

I added some more, including Farsider's recommendation for Stone Temple Tower and Saranus' for Sloop John B.

Area 52. Either Space Oddity by D-Bo or Rocket Man by Elton John. Can't fight the classics.

An Angry Blade, by Iron and Wine. Any of the wilderness sections in Blade's Edge Mountains.

Teardrop, covered by Jose Gonzalez. The fungal giant battle and/or sporeling funeral in Zangarmarsh. (I might think of a better place).[/i]

Heh, I think Rocket Man is actually quoted in some of the NPC dialogue in Area 52. Both great songs, though (for me) neither really fits Area 52. But I think every reader has his or her own soundtrack, so no matter.

I'm not really familiar with Iron and Wine, but I quite like this "An Angry Blade." I find it more evocative of the Stonetalon Mountains than Blade's Edge though, so I'll assign it to that zone.

I added the Teardrop cover for Zangarmarsh. The more mystical sound of Jose's version suits the zone well. I also changed the ethereals' music to Atman, by Rodrigo y Gabriela (which is not even remotely authentic to the Middle East, but hey, it fits).
