A day (and a half hour) late, I have thusly fulfilled my promise to post the rewritten story through the party's arrival at Uther's Tomb. I've got the chapter rewritten, with Madoran's uncharacteristic animosity gone and replaced with a more even keel; the Aerie Peak dirge intact and (I hope) poignant as always; and the mystery of the Dead Ogre hopefully a bit more unsettling than before. The chapter, after much deliberating and gnashing of teeth, also has - drumroll please - a name! I give you, Friends in the Northlands!
If you haven't read them yet, I posted the previous two chapters, Salves and The Law-Dwarf's Orders, earlier today.

Burning Crusade is installing, and here's Chapter XV - The Law-Dwarf’s Orders. I promised you guys posts through the arrival at Uther's Tomb, and with a little extra elbow-grease, I should still be able to deliver.
If you haven't read it yet, I posted the previous chapter, Salves, earlier today.

Chapter XIV, Salves, is written and up. Sorry it took me so long to get up - Horse's character develops some more in this chapter, and I'm taking my time with those scenes to make sure that the new character arc stays on track. It's a short one, but, as promised, I should have some more up later today.
A reminder to those that check my site less often: if you click the "Bookmark the next update" link at the bottom of the last chapter, your placemarker (which you can access on the main Murloc page above the Table of Contents) will be set to the next update, and stay there, so you can come back whenever and pick up right where you left off.
And now I'm off to the post office to pick up my copy of Burning Crusade! I promise I'll keep writing... just... I might not be eating or sleeping any more.

Hey all, I'm in western MA for the week, and like an idiot I left my story at home. I'll be able to continue rewriting, but I don't have stuff that I already rewrote with me. When I get home next Sunday, I'll post a big chunk for you - up through the gang's arrival at Uther's Tomb, say.
I've implemented printable bits, on a whim. Go to a chapter and click the "Printer-friendly" link. I haven't been able to fully test it, as there is no printer here, so give it a try and let me know how it works!

The first chapter of Part Two, 'The Cold March', is up. This one took me a lot longer to rewrite than I'd expected it to - mostly because I rewrote it three times, each time coming up with a more satisfying answer to the question, "Why the hell are they walking when it's urgent, and alone when it's dangerous?" I believe it makes for a much more sensical, and exciting, chapter.
If these chapter posts are coming faster than you read the site, you can click the "Bookmark the next update" link at the end of the latest post, and it'll set your place-marker to the next update and keep it there. A link will appear above the Table of Contents on the main murloc page taking you right back to where you left off. Convenient!

Chapter XII - Pride - is up! Not much is new, but I believe I've tightened the battle and the aftermath up significantly. I hope you all enjoy Madoran's speech as much as I enjoyed writing and then rewriting it. I love that thing.
Aaaaanyway... happy Martin Luther King Day (moment of silence), and happy day off to all you workin' stiffs.
Rewrite - Chapter XI

Chapter Eleven, The Silver Sanctum, is up. It includes a better exchange about the mysterious map, and I finally address the whole City of Lordaeron vs. Continent of Lordaeron thing - by making fun of Blizzard. I enjoyed it, anyway.
I also inserted a short exchange into Chapter Eight (March through the Mountains) about that map, to tie it together a little better. There's not much to it, so instead of making you go search it out, I'll just put it here. It's when Madoran first shows up in the cave.
“To Ironforge!” cried the dwarf, and marched off down the stone tunnel. ...
“I hope you won’t take offense,” said M to the dwarf, “but it was my intention to go past Ironforge, not through it. We need to make time.”
“Aw,” I said. I’d never been to that legendary city, and I’d been looking forward to it.
“And I hope I can change your mind,” said Madoran, “for more reasons than a host’s hubris. There is a document, a map which I should have had translated years ago. There are some interesting puzzles on it, and there is reason to believe that they are tied to your quest. I would like to send a copy of it north with you. There are those in the northlands who will know how to read it.”
“Interesting,” rumbled M.
“It won’t take more than a day to copy, and even if your Druidship isn’t road-weary, I’m sure Horse here won’t mind resting his hooves!” The dwarf winked at me.
“If you’re certain it’s important,” replied M, “then we can spare a day.”
“That’s a high threshold,” said Madoran wryly. “Nothing about any of this is certain.”
Rewrite - Chapter X
Saturday, January 6, 2007 - 1:30 PM
The next chapter - Stealth Ops - is up. The order of things has changed a little, and there's a little more description down in Old Ironforge. A tiny bit more explanation too of why we're taking a three-chapters break to go fight a bunch of dwarves.
One other announcement: after a short holiday hiatus, The World of Murloc will be starting up again tomorrow, with the first adventure (named, I believe, "Go See a Guy About a Thing") rolling out.
Rewrite - Chapter IX

Happy 2007! I had a pretty crazy 2006, but it was a good year. I hope yours was good and I hope this one will be even better!
The rewritten Chapter 9 is up. It's an important one: check it out for a new mid-air history lecture from Prince Madoran, with the setup for what I think is going to be a better Mystery of the Black Book for first-time readers. The perpetual favorite "Big Bovine Brain" scene is also herein!
Thanks so much to everyone who's donated so far: I've raised $225, which is way more than I thought I'd get and is within $75 of my $300 goal. I'm interviewing for my job early next week, so if you guys want me to delay taking it on behalf of the Murloc any further, you need to donate by then. Thanks again for everyone's amazing generosity, and if you haven't given yet and want to help out, you can do so here:
