The Orcmar Shorts: Punishment
Thursday, May 25, 2006 - 3:40 PM
After much delay, I am proud to announce my first post from my new home in Massachusetts: last week's short, "Punishment", is now up on the Shorts page. This brings the first cycle of short stories, the Revenge cycle, to a close. The first short of the next cycle (and the last short which I will be posting for some time) will go up tomorrow as planned. Then next week, barring more insanity (never a safe bet) I will be writing and posting the first bit of Part Two - The Crown of the Earth!
Apology and Update
Tuesday, May 23, 2006 - 8:10 PM
I'm in the middle of the most sudden and most hectic move of my life. I'm heading across state lines, to a place where they have trees (glee!), and away from a place where they have bosses that are incredibly unpleasant to me. It's taken all of my energy (and a great deal of gasoline) to just get the move done, not to mention getting my car finally registered to me and writing the papers I've had to write before I leave or I'll fail a class thusly rendering two years of selling my soul for a grad degree useless. (*breaths heavily*) Ergo, et al. and propter hoc, Albatros Bits has taken a tragic back seat for the last week and a half. However, I promise that come hell or high water (and I only say that when I reeeeally mean it), I will have not one but two shorts up for you on Friday. One may in fact come sooner, but no promises - tomorrow is my first day of a new job, and in my experience those aren't relaxing-type days.
All my apologies, guys - I know it's not cool when I wander off and stop updating the site for a week or more. The move is almost over, though, and it's my pleasure to announce that the Revenge Cycle of Shorts will be complete this Friday, and next week I will begin writing and posting The Darkened Tree, Part Two - The Crown of the Earth.
The Orcmar Shorts: "Loyalty"
Saturday, May 13, 2006 - 9:45 PM
This week's short, entitled "Loyalty", has been posted over on the Orcmar Shorts page. If you haven't read the other three, "Honor", "Labor" and "Starvation", you can (and should) read them, available from the same page.
The Orcmar Shorts
Thursday, May 11, 2006 - 8:40 PM
If you guys have been around for a while, or are adventurous with your clicking hereabouts, you've probably already heard of them, but since I'm starting them up again for a little while, I'm going to re-announce them.
ANNOUNCING: The Orcmar Shorts! They're a series of short-stories about Horse's time in Orcmar, years before "The Murloc is Lonely". There are three of them right now, and a fourth will be coming tomorrow or Saturday. The first three, "Honor," "Labor" and "Starvation," can be found on the Orcmar Shorts page.
Traditionally, I've taken a short breather between Parts (and occasionally a couple months off between books... >.>). This time, my real life happens to be in the process of wholly upending itself. It's the whole gig - new job, moving to another state, I'll have a room-mate for the first time since freshman year. I'll put up a fullblown announcement as the move gets closer, but for now the upshot is that in the near term I don't have time or energy to be able to produce the quality of story that I need to. "The Murloc is Lonely" will be returning in a few short weeks.
HOWEVER, since I'm doing this weekly thing now, I decided to keep writing stuff for you guys. The Shorts are simpler to write, and so I'll be able to put a new one up once a week for the next few weeks until things have settled back out again.
So have a read - I hope you enjoy them, and I hope you enjoy the new ones that will be going up soon!
"Net Neutrality" and why it sucks that it's gone
Thursday, May 11, 2006 - 8:20 PM
There's this thing in congress, and it involves the big internet companies being allowed to charge us internet page people ("Content-providers") in order to get our bits and bytes through their routers to you. Used to be couldn't do that... now they have the right to... if... okay, I'm gonna turn this over to a ninja.
So because of all that, there's a new button over on the right there (--->) and I hope you'll click it and sign their petition and call congress and stuff and try to make it so the internet is guaranteed to stay the big open perfect democracy it was intended to be.
The Road to Damnation
Tuesday, May 9, 2006 - 11:25 PM
I've been way too busy lately to read this three-page short story over on wow.com, called "The Road to Damnation", but I'm taking an (ill-advised) break from papers tonight to finally have a look. It's a background lore story to the next World of Warcraft patch and dungeon - the necropolis Naxxramas, a gigantic ugly thing with undead ugly hard-to-kill things in it. It's about Kel'Thuzad's fall to the dark side, and it's automatically better than Star Wars because he doesn't stand up at the end and go "NOOOOOO!" I'm always vaguely suspicions of PR stories, but as it turns out, this one is really damn good! (The style looks suspiciously familiar as well... and if I'm right on that, then awesome writing, O Chosen One, awesome writing indeed.) So if you're bored at work, or pretending to do homework, you should have a gander.
Just... not if you're about to go to bed.
A page of story
Saturday, May 6, 2006 - 11:00 PM
It's been an absolutely insane week. A whole hell of a lot has happened - some of it fantastically good, some of it really bad, but all of it very, very time- and energy-consuming. That-all, combined with a nasty case of writer's block, is why, writing what should have been a fairly easy wrap-up to Part One has turned into a grueling task.
And it's not even done yet! But I've got about half of it, a mere single page or so, and I thought I'd post it. I'm still writing, and I will post the rest of the end as soon as it's done and ready.
Meanwhile, in the real... in the... in, not in Warcraft...
Saturday, May 6, 2006 - 12:10 AM
Story coming tomorrow. cross my heart.
Tonight, two bits of awesome. First: last week, David Copperfield got robbed at gunpoint. But, see, he's David Copperfield. Apparently, he used slight of hand to make the gun-toting fools think his pockets were empty. Basically, David Copperfield is my new hero.
Second... well... basically, Bryan Singer is my new hero, again. is pretty much all I have to say about that. (kevin spacey = old hero)
Late Story Today
Friday, May 5, 2006 - 1:15 PM
Update: Some things came up that need my attention and are taking me away from computers for a period of time. Depending on how long this takes, I may have to push the story back into the wee hours of the morning. Sorry, folks.
If you need a good fiction fix in the mean time, you should wander over to forum-hound Keltor's debut short-story, "Death to the Horde". It's not all posted yet, but it's a killer story so far!
Hey all, I'm exhausted and overtired and sick and basically not writing. Right now I'm going to go take a nap and see if I can refresh the prose part of my brain, which is shot right now. I'll have the rest of Chapter Eight up for you later tonight. Sorry for the delay.
Happy Cinqo de Mayo!
